CT-103 vs CT-203 Flaring Tools: A Buyer’s Substitution Checklist

A replacement model needs a size-by-size check

When a requested flaring tool is unavailable or a distributor wants fewer stock lines, a nearby model number can look like an easy substitute. Approve the replacement against the customer's actual requirements, not the similarity of the product photograph or its largest listed size.

CT-103 and CT-203: what changes?

Page 05 of the Torchmark HVAC Tools Catalogue 2026 lists the following configurations:

  • CT-103A: 7/8, 1 and 1-1/8 inch.
  • CT-203A: 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 1 and 1-1/8 inch.
  • CT-103M: 22, 25 and 28 mm.
  • CT-203M: 16, 19, 22 and 28 mm.

CT-203A contains all three diameters listed for CT-103A, with two additional sizes. This establishes listed diameter coverage only; it does not prove equivalent performance or supplied components. The metric comparison is different: CT-203M adds 16 and 19 mm but does not list 25 mm. A customer who needs 25 mm cannot approve it as a complete substitute on the basis of this catalog.

Use a short substitution approval record

  1. Record the original model and the proposed full model suffix.
  2. List every required tube outside diameter in the customer's original units. Mark each as listed or requiring written confirmation.
  3. Confirm tube material, wall thickness, flare type and fitting requirements. Do not infer compatibility from diameter alone.
  4. Compare supplied components, instructions, packaging and labels. Get photographs of the actual offered configuration.
  5. Agree sample acceptance criteria for the intended application and record the sample model. Do not describe an untested replacement as equivalent.
  6. Update the purchase order only after approval, including model, quantity and any unresolved exclusions.

Same carton dimensions do not mean the same tool

Both catalog entries list 10 pieces per case and a 31.5 × 17 × 14.5 cm carton. Those shared packing figures do not resolve the difference in metric size coverage. Confirm final packaging in the quotation and keep each suffix on a separate order line.

Related specifications and buying guidance

Compare our CT-203A / CT-203M product specifications with the CT-103 specifications. For assortment planning, see our large-size flaring tool coverage guide; for smaller sizes, see the CT-190A / CT-190M ordering checklist.

Request a model-specific quotation

Send the original model, proposed substitute, required diameters, quantities, destination and packaging requirements. Our minimum order is 500 pieces; mixed orders require confirmed allocation. Samples are charged, with sample freight refunded after an order is placed. Typical lead time is 15–45 days, subject to the confirmed order.
